AI Engineering with Claude

Stop shipping prototypes. Start shipping production AI agents.

You already build with Claude Code, agents, and MCP. Udacity’s AI Engineering with Claude Nanodegree is the structured, credentialed path to running them in production — the agentic loop, MCP tool governance, evaluation, guardrails, and multi-agent orchestration, taught through mentor-reviewed projects.

38 hours · 4 courses · 4 portfolio projects · ~4 months · mentor-reviewed · certificate

Who this is for

Ship past the prototype

Engineer the production harness — the agentic loop, retries, and escalation — so your agents survive real users, not just a clean demo.

Make agents reliable

Govern MCP tools, add evaluation and observability so silent failures surface before customers hit them, and enforce guardrails in code.

Earn the credential

Finish with mentor-reviewed portfolio projects and preparation for the Claude Certified Architect – Foundations (CCA-F) exam.

What you’ll build

Four portfolio projects anchored in real industry scenarios — insurance, retail, financial services, and manufacturing — reviewed by an experienced mentor.

MCP-powered “Agentic Analyst”

Build an analyst agent that uses MCP tools to read, reason over, and act on real business data.

Enterprise multi-agent code reviewer

Orchestrate specialized agents into a code-review system with bounded autonomy and human-in-the-loop review.

Claims intake agent (stop_reason loop)

Drive an agent with a stop_reason-based loop that decides on its own when to clarify, route, or escalate.

Claude Code config for a monorepo team

Stand up a modular CLAUDE.md hierarchy, path-scoped rules, and a read-only /review command for a 12-person team.

What you’ll learn

  • Agentic loop & stop_reason control
  • MCP tool governance & permissions
  • Evaluation, traces & observability
  • Multi-agent orchestration
  • Model selection across Claude 4.5 (Haiku / Sonnet / Opus)
  • Claude Code: subagents, CLAUDE.md & Skills

Why learn this now

AI writes more of the code every month — which makes the engineers who can design, evaluate, and govern agent systems more valuable, not less. Claude 4.5 and the Agent SDK made production agents real, and the teams shipping them need exactly the harness skills this program teaches: stop-reason loops, context control, tool permissions, evaluation traces, and human escalation. Udacity’s promotional windows don’t last long.

Is it right for you?

A great fit if…

You already ship with Claude Code, agents, or MCP and want production rigor plus a credential, and you learn best from reviewed, project-based work.

Maybe not yet if…

You’re brand new to programming or to Claude. Start with the fundamentals first — compare beginner options on our best AI engineering courses roundup — then come back for the production depth.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be an expert to start?

It is an intermediate program for engineers who already build with Claude and want production rigor. You should be comfortable with a programming language and basic API and agent concepts — you do not need to be a machine-learning researcher.

How long does the Nanodegree take?

About 38 hours of material across 4 courses and 39 lessons, typically completed in roughly 4 months at a part-time pace. Focused learners finish faster.

Is it worth it if I already use Claude Code?

That is exactly the target audience. The Nanodegree formalizes the production skills — evaluation, guardrails, orchestration, and the agent harness — that most self-taught agent builders skip, and it adds mentor review plus a recognizable credential.

What is the Claude Certified Architect – Foundations exam?

A credential the curriculum is designed to prepare you for. Completing the projects builds the exact skills the CCA-F exam tests, and leaves you with a portfolio you can show employers.

How much does it cost?

Udacity uses an all-access subscription (around $249 per month, with a discounted multi-month bundle) that includes this Nanodegree and 500+ other courses. Udacity runs occasional promotions — check the enrollment page for the current price and any active discount.

Can I cancel or get a refund?

Udacity’s subscription can be cancelled between billing cycles, and Udacity publishes a refund window on the enrollment page. Confirm the current terms there before enrolling.

Do I need to know machine-learning math?

No. This is application-layer AI engineering — building, governing, and shipping agents with Claude — not model training. Software-engineering skill matters far more than gradient descent here.

Will AI just replace engineers who learn this?

The opposite. This program is about becoming the engineer who designs, governs, and owns agent systems — the role that grows in value as AI writes more of the code.
